Kevin Andrusiak, senior mining writer at The Australian, died in Sydney yesterday apparently of a heart attack.
He was only 33.
His columns and stories in The Australian were always informative, well researched and above all, witty. He had a knack for finding some great stories, but also for adding his own personal flair which made him an absolute pleasure to read. Kevin was a real talent.
Although i didn't know him, this news is very upsetting.
The best part of The Australian will forever be gone.
Kevin Andrusiak will be very sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
About Just Grumpy
Im not a right wing nut job, far from it. I just believe that the world doesnt owe you a living, you make your own luck (was that Kevin Rudd?) and if you work hard you can succeed.
Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)
I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.
Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.

I first met Kevin in 2006 and his warmth and generosity in helping me understand the resources sector was exceptional. He always had time for a chat even when there was a deadline approaching. I will remember times in Kalgorlie, Brisbane and Sydney with fondness and will raise a glass to a life that was all too short but I was blessed to have known him even for the short time I did.
Rest in peace Kev we will miss you
