Gruen Transfer - Fat Pride
I have to say that I'm not a fan of The Gruen Transfer. Maybe i haven't given it a chance because of Will Anderson. I'm probably a stickler for thinking that a "comedian" should actually be funny.
Anyway, a recent episode of the Gruen Transfer gave ad agencies the opportunity to produce a TV commercial based on prejudice against fat people. One of the ads by Melbourne ad agency The Foundry was considered so offensive that even the ABC couldn't air it.
I'm all for shock tactics in TV advertising to make a point - I'm a huge fan of the TAC ads. But i think this ad probably goes a little too far. Just my opinion.
This is The Foundry's explanation: "It is clearly an anti-discrimination ad, an argument for tolerance, not divisiveness. As road safety advertisements sometimes use horrific accident images to make a point, so too this ad uses shock to drive home the ugliness of prejudice."
What do you think?
About Just Grumpy
Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)
I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.
Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
