Advertising Standards Bureau Ban BMW Z4 Commercial - Hoon Driving
Those tossers over at the Advertising Standards Bureau are at it again. This time they have banned the BMW Z4 paint commercial because they think it will encourage hoon driving. I'm a big supporter of road safety and greater penalties for hoon drivers.
But seriously, a BMW driving around painting a white surface in controlled conditions will lead to hoon driving? What about that ad from a few years back where the car was supposedly driving at speed on the roof of a building? What did that lead to? Kids driving off buildings? I dont think so.
This is what they said about the BMW ad "The board noted that the advertisement does depict in a number of places the driver intentionally allowing the wheels of the car to lose traction and perform ... a four-wheel drift"
This Advertising Standards Bureau have just a little bit too much power i think. They recently banned the AMI Bedroom Police ad featuring Sgt Gilroy. Prior to that they stopped Nandos showing an ad because it was deemed sexist.
And yet, turn on your TV after 11pm and women prance about half naked offering their bodies to you in a most disgusting way. Yes, they allow these ads on the air.
Lodge a complaint about any ad you want - if you want it off the air, all it takes is a written submission to the ASB. Online Complaint Form.
This is the video of an overseas cut of the ad - the banned one is basically the same.
About Just Grumpy
Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)
I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.
Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
