Disaster - Pack a Go Bag in Melbourne

Melbourne City Council in conjunction with the State Government and Emergency Services will launch a new strategy to deal with a major disaster or terrorist attack.

Reminiscent of the duck and cover ads of the 1950's, the Council's cleverly designed campaign named "Go Bag", urges residents and workers to pack a bag with a torch, a bottle of water, a radio and identification.

In the event of a major nuclear attack, inner city occupants will be told to douse themselves in water to protect the skin from radiation, shine the torch into the sky to deflect the explosion and tune their radio to 3AW to listen to Neil Mitchell's ongoing rant. It has been suggested that Neil Mitchell would be one of the few people to survive a full scale nuclear attack.

Emergency evacuation points will be the MCG, Etihad Stadium, Melbourne Exhibition Centre and the Melbourne Museum. However, the AFL are disputing that Etihad could be used as an evacuation point and have said that they already have a contractual arrangement to play games at the stadium during a major attack on Melbourne.

It is yet to be announced what colour the Go Bag should be.

About Just Grumpy

Im not a right wing nut job, far from it. I just believe that the world doesnt owe you a living, you make your own luck (was that Kevin Rudd?) and if you work hard you can succeed.

Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)

I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.

Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.

Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
