Sea Patrol - Possibly Australia's Worst TV Drama
I cant say that i watch a lot of Australian drama. After tuning in to an episode of Sea Patrol for the first time i can see why.
I admit that i didn't catch all of the episode but what i did see was bad enough to know never to watch again. I'm not saying that the acting is bad - it isn't, and it has a cast of talented performers including Lisa McCune. But the scripts they have to work with are simply atrocious.
Take tonight's episode. McCune and two of her fellow sailors were on a runaway vessel searching for another crew member. They were unaware that a serial killer was also on board, but knew that something was wrong, thus their search of the vessel with guns. Just the regular daily events for the Australian Navy.
Unable to locate anyone on the ship, McCune took control of the vessel and sent her two colleagues to continue the search. And that's where the drama began. The two men thought it appropriate to walk into a deep freezer alone. Lo and behold, the doors closed behind them, trapping them inside. Whoa, didn't see that one coming.
McCune is unable to contact her colleagues and then finds herself being chased by a man wielding an axe. She is seen running through the galleys of the ship, with the axe man following, Jason, Friday the 13th style.
There's just one problem here. McCune is armed with a semi automatic pistol, but fails to take a shot at the killer despite plenty of opportunity. She waits until she is behind a closed door. She shoots four or five times, missing of course, then has to reload. Huh, a semi automatic with just 5 rounds?
Keep in mind that this is supposed to be a member of the Australian Armed Forces, highly trained and skilled. McCune then hooks up an elaborate Macgyver like mechanism to give an electric shock to the killer as he tries to open a steel door. It works!
But wait - he isn't dead, and as she walks out of the room, he grabs her by the leg. She still doesnt take a shot, instead McCune runs off screaming, ends up in the kitchen and searches for a really big knife...
I wont tell you the ending. Needless to say, all the crew survive, but im sure you guessed that. This episode had all the hallmarks of a really crappy horror flick. The only difference being, that this one had an even worse script with next to no suspense.
Maybe it is the scriptwriters. But the production company and networks also have a case to answer in allowing this rubbish on our TV. Compare Sea Patrol to Packed to the Rafters. Its corny and more like an extended sit com, but its an enjoyable hour and it rates through the roof.
We can do better. What do you think? Is Sea Patrol Australia's worst drama, or are there other contenders for the title?

Surely All Saints has to take the cake? It really isnt much of a surprise that it has been axed. The scripts are a joke. Bring back A Country Practice.
Sea Patrol is a load of crap. If it isnt cancelled soon i will be very surprised. Re the above What about Sons and Daughters mate? Or skyways or matlock police!
WTF you need to watch that episode obviously you didn't process the episode properly. i think Sea Patrol is the BEST! Australian Drama. Also that episode is a very intellectual episode you need to watch the whole episode to know what was going on. an the two guys (Two dads and Buffer) where investigating a noise in the freezer- keep in mind the crazy guys had escaped from a psychiatric hospital
Also XO was out of ammo so she could not take a shot! and not all the members survived.
Packed to the rafters is among the biggest pile of crap to come to tv, the sooner this waste of production resource and money is axed the better.
sea patrol is one of the best shows around!! but i did prefer lisa mccune as maggie doyle in blue heelers. i say, keep sea patrol, and bring back blue heelers!!!
Seapatrol is undoubtedly the worst show on australian tv - possibly ever made - and I hate it. It is horrendous - it is so bad it is funny for the majority of the time. My friends actually watch it just to laugh at how stupid it is. I hope that it is cancelled very very soon.
BEST SHOW EVER!!!!!! im from england and it is shown here. watch the full episode. even though i total agree with the bit about the gun (Browning Hi-Power. actualy has 13 round magazine so dont know why she reloaded. might have had the smith and western rounds instead. it generalyt has low recoil so dont know why she missed. also when she electrocuted him, i would av put a few rounds in him for good mesure) but it is a good show. i aint seen many but i will tell you, watch more of them coz it has a bigger story line than just the episodes (season 2). also 1 question that has troubled me. F88 Austeyr. looks like an AUG to me. also Norinco Type 56 looks like an AK-47. http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Sea_Patrol this is the website that said the nam,es. would someone plz cheack.
