New Zealand - Nai Yin Xue - The Father of Little Pumpkin Could be Released in Just 12 Years For Killing His Wife
It seems that our good friends across the Tasman have more in common with Australia than either of us might like to admit. And that sameness comes in the form of painfully weak sentencing for brutal crimes against our fellow citizens.
The father of little pumpkin, who abandoned her at a Melbourne train station, was convicted of killing his wife and stuffing her body in the boot of a car. Nai Yin Xue, a martial arts expert, then fled Australia. His disappearance sparked a massive international manhunt. He was eventually captured in the United States and extradited to New Zealand.
This case has been a travesty from go to woe. You may recall that it took the New Zealand police several days to discover the body of An An Liu, despite the fact that it was in a car directly outside the front of the house that they were searching. It is possible that they have never seen a TV police series, where bodies in the boot feature in every 4th episode. Incompetent? You bet.
And now we have a sentencing fail. Apparently the statutory minimum sentence for murder in New Zealand is 10 years. And there is your answer on what a life is worth in the land of the All Blacks. But Nai Yin Xue was given an extra 2 years due to the premeditation of the murder and the excruciating terror his wife endured.
Some sentence hey? I cant be too critical of our neighbours. We do exactly the same thing in this country.
