Police Allege Gary Edward Ryan Was Doing Burnouts and Blew .166 before Killing Bangoang Tut
I wrote yesterday about the poor little six year old boy from Morwell who died when a car ploughed through the front fence of his house. At the time, it was assumed that the driver lost control of his car after consuming too much alcohol. It was reported that he blew .0109, double the legal limit.
But the story is in fact much worse. It has now been alleged that the driver in question, Gary Edward Ryan, actually blew .166, more than 3 times the legal limit. It is also alleged that he drank 12 stubbies of beer during the day, followed by some home brew.
Following all the drinking, it is further alleged that Ryan was doing burnouts in his Holden Commodore. It is not clear if he was doing this at the time he lost control of the car. But it has been suggested that he was travelling at between 50 and 80kmh just before he crashed.
And now Bangoang Tut is dead. He was a 6 year old kid who escaped war torn Sudan. Who would have ever dreamed that the carnage that would greet him in the front yard of his home in Morwell would be much worse than his homeland?
I'm not one who usually calls for examples to be made in sentencing. But I'll make an exception in this case, only if it is held up for all to see, then becomes the standard. If found guilty of a range of offences, Ryan should be sentenced to a very lengthy jail term. And i mean serious time, not a pissy 10 years. This must be substantial.
Lets hope someone is listening. You cant have an effective road safety campaign without significant deterrence and punishment. Don't let all the good work done by Victoria Police, the TAC and other authorities go to waste. Punish the offenders.
Back in July, i actually suggested a new ad scenario for the TAC. Subject: Hoon Driver Burnouts. Car in question: Holden Commodore. Eerie. What do you think?
Now here's another ad for the TAC to consider. How about we have a 60 second commercial, with progressive still photos. First photo of a road victim alive and well. Second photo of the accident scene. Third photo of the mug shot of the offender overlaid with the jail penalty. That's an easy and cheaply produced commercial. Might actually have a decent impact too.

I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.

I am writing this email anonymously as I do not want to cop any backlash from these families. I have noticed on your website that Mr Ryan's girlfriend Kathleen has said Gary is distraught and it was an accident. I think it is about time the media know the truth, and the whole truth. Which is truth that can be backed up by the Morwell and the Traralgon police departments.
Kathleen Wasmyr, Gary Ryan and Rachael whitlock are all well known to the police, and this is an incident, that could have perhaps been prevented. Gary and his little gang of friends have harasses young couple around Morwell for the past six months and nothing has been done.
He has 2 children of his own, that is true, but did Miss Wasmyr bother to tell the Media that not even a month ago herself, Gary and a group of another 5 people took it upon themselves to go to a house where there was 2 women and 2 children (ages 2 and 1) and smash every window? Did she mention who the girl involved in this incidents 1 year old son was covered in glass and could have been seriously injured? Or the car they smashed up and couldn't wait to get around Morwell and brag about. How about another incident where the smashed the laundry and bedroom window of another couple? That wasn't mentioned either was it. No because one way or another Gary has to be made to look like he made a stupid mistake.
Gary does not even care about his two boys. They smoke drugs around them, they don;t bathe and to make it worse they do all there crimes with there poor kids around, to make it 100 times worse the police know!
This isn't a mistake though. He does it most nights of the week and most nights of the week the police know about it, but it's not worth trying to catch him, but now at the cost of an innocent 6 year old boys life the police will do something? Gary drives his car around ( the same car from the accident) DRINKING, overloading and with his 2 sons in the car. He drives past people's houses at all hours of the night tooting and threatening.
I only see it fair that people know who he really is and these are all things that have been brought to the attention of the morwell police. Also numerous people have complained to DHS about the way that Gary's children are treated but once again no one does anything about it. The house is filthy and they smoke drug's and drink around there 2 small children.
This letter will probably get no where but at least the truth has been told. It is not fair that these people get to have there say and get to say it's an accident. An accident is drink driving without thinking or making poor judgement once. This is something these people do day in day out. They have no care for society and now that they have taken someones life they want to be made out to be sorry and that it was an accident. I think not.
Wow, I hope the preivius letter has no truth behind it. As it troubles me to hear that people like this walk around in our community. I have recentley returned from living abroad for the past 3 years in over 20 different countries and it has givin me a great sence of pride being from what I now know 100% is the greatest country on earth. The pain and poverty I have whitnessed in my travels has made me feel so luck to be from such a great nation, however I am ashamed our country is full of these bottom dwelling doll bludging scum bags that have no appreciation of what a great country they have been born into. We need tougher penalties for these mindless thugs to make our communities a safe place for us all.
I have known Gary his whole life, I grew up with him and became good friends with Kathleen!
How dare anyone make him look that bad! you didnt know gary and you certainly didnt see him being raised and the crap he was going through!
gary is a gy that was shunned from his family because he was different and kathleen was treated like crap by his family also!
You shouldnt just see the bad things he has done in his life- but the mistakes he has made has changed him, this one would have made him feel like he killed his own son!
So dont go telling people about his life because you my dear are a sad sick person who needs help! obviously you hated gary from some reason! yea they did drink but their kids were always taken care of well! they were bathed and fed good.
Gary loves his kidz so you can go jump of the iggest bridge you can find little person!!!
Hmm.....seeing a little trend here. Morwell, anti-social behavior and, judging by the comment above, semi-literacy.
Ignoring the allegations made about Gary Ryan above (which, although here-say, would most likely have some credence based on his actions of last Christmas), the fact is that his deliberate decision to drive whilst intoxicated took the life of a young, innocent human being.
The comment above intrigues me in that it poses the question of when does an individual become accountable for their own actions? Yes, it is most likely that this cretin Gary Ryan had a less than ideal upbringing. Look around some areas of his town Morwell and also surrounding areas such as Traralgon, Sale and the infamous Moe and you will see that Mr Ryan is not the only individual brought up in substandard home conditions. Is this an excuse for inappropriate and, more importantly, illegal behavior that results in the loss of a young life? Even the mindlessly meanderer who posted the comment above would have to say 'no'.
So, to the poster above, I cannot believe that in the space of only 12 months, Mr Ryan has miraculously morphed from being a social burden and killer into a misunderstood saint worthy of public sympathy in that time. Yes, changes can happen but, in this instance the question begs; if his upbringing really was that crappy yet he was an individual capable of turning around what was likely going to be a continuum of bad behavior learned from his childhood, why did he not attempt to correct his life before cutting-off someone elses? What do you think, poster above?
