So i guess road safety commercials aren't just the domain of the TAC in Victoria anymore. Vic Roads has started making ads which are mostly for broadcast online i think. They are basic ads aimed mostly at the use of mobile phones while driving and use comedy to get their message across. Red heads and emos watch out.

They aren't anywhere near the level of sophistication of the TAC ads we have come to expect. And i worry that if they are actually designed for young people, sadly they miss the mark - i can hear the word lame already. The ads actually resemble TV shows like Comedy Inc. Skit comedy like this may have been funny in the days of Fast Forward in the 1980's or at a school camp but is sadly past its used by date.

I can just see them being dreamed up by some recent graduates of a drama or film making academy, or even worse, university graduates in marketing working at an advertising company. But i suppose every road safety message helps. These are some of the videos from Vic Roads.

Personally I like them. I mean they're slightly offensive, but for a lot of young people this humour is alright.

About Just Grumpy

Im not a right wing nut job, far from it. I just believe that the world doesnt owe you a living, you make your own luck (was that Kevin Rudd?) and if you work hard you can succeed.

Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)

I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.

Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.

Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
