Jet Blue Steven Slater - AKA Airplane Johnny

I'm wondering if I'm the only one to see a little bit of the character "Johnny" from the great movie "Airplane" or "Flying High" in Steven Slater, the Jet Blue flight attendant who jumped plane after it landed at JFK airport on Monday. Even the actor who played Johnny has a similar name - Stephen Stucker. The photo isn't such a bad resemblance either.

Slater was so disgusted at the behaviour of passengers that he made an angry announcement on the PA system then proceeded to open the cabin door, activated the emergency chute, slid his way to the tarmac then ran to his car to make a final getaway. Sadly for all of us, Slater has been arrested and charged with reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. Surely a defence of "just kidding" should suffice?

Im not a right wing nut job, far from it. I just believe that the world doesnt owe you a living, you make your own luck (was that Kevin Rudd?) and if you work hard you can succeed.

Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)

I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.

Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.

Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
