OK, so i have myself an iphone 3gs. And i think its a fandangallingly funky little unit. Sure i don't use it to its full extent - I'm not into so many applications. But it works. And it is very user friendly.
Which is apparently more than can be said for the Iphone 4. As far as i can tell from the media, there is a small problem with phone reception. Hmmm. Not so much of a smart phone after all.
But anyways, that's not for me to worry about. I have no need to upgrade my phone just yet. I'll wait for the iphone 5. Or iphone 6. One thing is clear. I like my iphone. But it hasn't been a life changing acquisition. Its just a thing.
What irks me about the whole "apple" obsession is the spin from Steve Jobs and his wonder nerds. Take the following video as an example. As part of the launch of the iPhone 4, Jobs is up on stage extolling the virtues of his new product. One of his key points is that the iPhone 4 has video chat. Wow.
Despite the fact that video chat as a concept has been around since i saw it on Beyond 2000 in about 1988, Jobs is proud to announce this as some revolutionary creation. Forgive me if thousands of others have already written about this, but hasn't video chat on mobiles been around for at least the last five or so years? I remember seeing it in action on a mate's Samsung mobile at least in 2007, if not earlier.
So whats so new about video chat? Nothing. Except that this time it's from Apple and this time it's announced to an audience of skivvy wearing nerdo freakazoids. Feel like applauding for anything and nothing? These nutters do.
Its a weird world when even so called "smart" people carrying "smart" phones get sucked in by corporate spin. Apple aren't the only ones who make phones. And some of the phones made by other companies actually have decent reception. Im just saying.
Apple iphone 4 video calling. Who wouldnt want to be called by a nerdy looking 50 something year old guy who has just the one lame outfit in his closet?
About Just Grumpy
Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)
I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.
Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
