Ive seen some "outrage" in my time, but this almost takes the cake. The international response to the commando storming of a so called "aid" ship heading to Gaza is almost unified in its condemnation of Israel.
Lets be clear. These were not aid ships. Sure, they may have been carrying aid material. But they were only doing so in a ploy to whip up international anger. Their real purpose was to try to breach an economic blockade of Gaza. And the ships were organised by groups with well known links to terrorist players.
Israel was well within its rights to try to stop the breach. Perhaps their method of storming the ship should come under some scrutiny. But even then, that's an internal matter for the Israeli defence force. Someone should be answerable for not knowing the extent of the danger that was waiting on the deck of the ship.
Its not as if the commandos stormed the ship and just started opening fire indiscriminately. No. They were attacked. Brutally attacked. For their own safety, there was no question that they were entitled to fight back.
If these so called peace activists were so peaceful, why did they attack the soldiers in such a brutal way? And someone could do with asking the question as to why these "peaceful" people all had metal bars and knives with them. Professional soldiers were hardly going to fire on unarmed civilians. That was not their purpose.
Have a look at this video, and just see who is doing the attacking. It isn't the Israelis. Also note the restraint shown by the commandos. As far as i can tell, at one point they appear to fire to protect one of their own, but stop when the attackers back away. Necessary force but no more. But why let the facts get in the way of a good "outrage"?
And for a moment there i thought i had woken up in the 1970's. Tourism Australia has launched its latest failure, ahem, sorry, campaign to bring visitors to Australia. And what an effort.
Yes, its corny. Very corny. And it does emphasise all those things that many of us cringe about. But what do i know. Its probably so unclever and simple that it might just work.
But for the money they have spent on this campaign, it would want to work. It only cost a few million dollars to write a simple tune and hire a few actors. Chicken feed really when you consider all the other money that gets wasted.

About Just Grumpy
Thats not to say that we shouldnt help those who cant help themselves. I have a firm belief in giving a helping hand up to those who genuinely need it. (please give generously to my linked charities)
I call myself a realist and i want to tell it like it is. Somebody has to speak the truth. Because seriously, what a selfish bunch of insular tools we have become in today's dreamy Australia.
Maybe we arent so different to the rest of the world. And maybe it was always this way.
Anyway, until things change, i remain young and grumpy.
