She lived in public housing and every time she received a pension increase, she also received a rental increase. She did her best to budget with what she received. She had to sell her car, her only mode of independent transport because she couldnt afford the increasing costs to keep it,and she didnt have nearby public transport. The outcome of that was she started spending more and more time at home and her health declined. She lost a major part of her independence. People say pensioners should have planned for their future. My father and mother had their plans. My father was a hard worker and making plans for his retirement. He became ill and within a month passed away, aged 52, with a good many working days ahead of him to work on his retirement plan. There wasnt compulsory super when he passed away. People can make all the plans they want for their future, but keep in mind, things dont always go to plan. No one knows what the future holds for them. Thank heaven there ARE people who are only too happy to step in and give a hand, and you probably might find those that do help, more than likely help out with other charity organisations as well. It&#39;s blatant to see the difference between their children and the youngsters of today. You don&#39;t see that the government has let our pensioners down and are letting families down. Why is their so much violence,suicide etc amongst the teens, because the both parents are working and no one is home for the child when they have finished school. We (Old Age Pensioners) are not asking for a handout just help. It's a totally different concept. Have a look at the website, it's not about money, it's about helping out with basic tasks and having someone to talk to. If i could pop around and help the burmese with their fence repairs, clean some houses and talk about the good 'ol days, i would. I totally agree that more people should help 3rd world famine, but don't take your frustration out on the oldies.
